4 Things You Can’t Miss in Cape Town

Cape Town is one of those cities that has everything—mountains, beaches, penguins, wine, and some of the most scenic roads you’ll ever drive. It’s buzzy and laid-back all at once, with views that completely reset your brain. These were four of our favorite moments, and if you're planning a trip, I’d start right here.

1. Boulders Beach – Penguins on the Shoreline

There’s nothing quite like walking alongside African penguins on a warm, sandy beach. Boulders is home to a protected penguin colony, and they are exactly as adorable as you'd expect. You’ll wander shaded boardwalks that open to pristine sands where they waddle freely—posing, sunbathing, and charming everyone around them.

📍 Where: Boulders Beach, Simon’s Town

Luxury Tip: Arrive early for fewer crowds, and consider hiring a private wildlife guide for added insight and access to quieter vantage points.

2. Somerset Road – Where Coffee Meets Cocktails

Somerset Road is the kind of place you stumble into and end up spending hours. Between Green Point and De Waterkant, this stretch offers everything from boutique coffee shops to moody rooftop bars. It’s equal parts laid-back and polished, with locals sipping flat whites and curated cocktails side by side.

📍 Where: Somerset Road, Green Point + De Waterkant

Luxury Tip: Grab a seat at Ground Art Caffe for an art-meets-espresso experience, and head to The Grey Hotel’s rooftop bar for a golden hour Aperol with views.

3. Cape of Good Hope – Where Oceans Collide

This iconic cape at the southern tip of the peninsula is the stuff of travel dreams—soaring cliffs, crashing waves, and a rugged coastline that feels like the edge of the world. Whether you hike to the lighthouse or simply soak in the views, it's a dramatic moment that stays with you.

📍 Where: Cape Point Nature Reserve

Luxury Tip: Book a private transfer and pack a bottle of bubbly for a celebration at the top. Bonus: a local guide can narrate the fascinating maritime history along the way.

4. Chapman’s Peak Drive – A Scenic Showstopper

If there’s one drive you must do, it’s Chapman’s Peak. This winding coastal road clings to the cliffs between Hout Bay and Noordhoek, offering cinematic views the entire way. Pull over at designated lookout points, roll the windows down, and just breathe it in.

📍 Where: Between Hout Bay and Noordhoek

Luxury Tip: Rent a convertible and drive it at sunset with a curated snack box or bottle of sparkling wine from a local vineyard. Pure magic.

Wrap-Up

Cape Town surprised me in the best way. It’s got energy and edge, but never feels chaotic. Whether you’re here for wildlife, wine, or just incredible views—you’ll find it. And if these four experiences are all you have time for, you’ll still walk away feeling like you saw something unforgettable.
