These are the luxury hotels that delivered the full experience: unforgettable settings, beautiful rooms, thoughtful service, and the kind of stay that becomes part of the trip itself.
The No-Question Top Two
1. Monastero Santa Rosa — Amalfi Coast, Italy
Monastero Santa Rosa is one of those hotels that feels almost impossible to fully describe without sounding dramatic. Set in a former monastery on the Amalfi Coast, it has that rare combination of history, views, service, and atmosphere that makes a hotel feel like a destination by itself. Everything about it feels intentional and romantic — the cliffside setting, the gardens, the pool, the quiet elegance, and the sense that you are somewhere truly special. This is the kind of hotel I would recommend for a honeymoon, anniversary, or once-in-a-lifetime Italy trip.
2. Andronis Wellness Concept — Santorini, Greece
Andronis Wellness Concept is exactly what people dream about when they imagine a luxury Santorini escape. It has the views, the private pool energy, the calm, the design, and the romantic setting that make Santorini feel worth the hype. What makes it especially memorable is that it feels luxurious without being chaotic. Santorini can be crowded and intense, but staying somewhere like this gives the trip a more peaceful, elevated feeling. It is easily one of the most romantic hotels I’ve stayed at.
Biggest Positive Surprise
3. Niramaya Villas & Spa — Port Douglas, Australia
Niramaya completely surprised me in the best way. I knew it would be nice, but I did not realize how spacious and private it would feel. The villa had a huge living room, a beautiful kitchen, an outdoor cooking and dining area, a plunge pool, and even a massive closet. It felt less like a hotel room and more like having a private luxury home in tropical Australia. The grounds were also gorgeous, which made the whole stay feel peaceful, lush, and much more elevated than I expected.
Best City Luxury
4. Four Seasons Hotel Sydney — Sydney, Australia
Four Seasons Sydney is the kind of city hotel that makes a big, bucket-list city feel easy. The location is a huge part of the appeal, especially if you want to be near the harbor, Circular Quay, the Opera House, and the classic Sydney views. It feels polished, comfortable, and high-end without being overly formal. For a first trip to Sydney, I think this is one of those hotels that helps anchor the experience and makes the city feel even more special.
5. One&Only One Za’abeel — Dubai, UAE
One&Only One Za’abeel is dramatic in the way only Dubai can be. It feels modern, sleek, and over-the-top in the best way, with the kind of design and scale that immediately makes the stay feel like part of the destination. This is not quiet, understated luxury — it is bold, polished, and very Dubai. If you want a hotel that feels impressive from the moment you arrive, this absolutely delivers.
6. Waldorf Astoria Rome Cavalieri — Rome, Italy
Waldorf Astoria Rome Cavalieri feels like classic grand-hotel luxury. It is not the tiny boutique hotel tucked into a side street; it is more spacious, elegant, and resort-like than many Rome hotels. That makes it a great choice if you want to experience Rome while still having a true hotel escape to come back to. The property has a more traditional luxury feel, which I think works really well for travelers who want comfort, space, and a polished experience.
Best Beach and Resort Luxury
7. The Surin — Phuket, Thailand
The Surin was phenomenal and absolutely belongs on this list. It has that rare beach resort feeling where the setting does so much of the work — beautiful water, lush surroundings, and a sense of privacy that makes the hotel feel tucked away from the busier parts of Phuket. It feels relaxed but still elevated, which is exactly what I want from a luxury beach stay. This is one of the hotels I would be very comfortable recommending for a honeymoon-style Thailand trip.
8. Fairmont Kea Lani — Maui, Hawaii
Fairmont Kea Lani is a beautiful example of classic Hawaii resort luxury. It is the kind of place that works when you want the trip to feel easy: beach, pool, service, space, and that relaxed Maui feeling. It may not be the flashiest hotel on this list, but it delivers the kind of polished resort experience that makes Hawaii feel special. For a warm, low-stress luxury vacation, it is an easy property to love.
Best Nature and Romantic Escape
9. L’Auberge de Sedona — Sedona, Arizona
L’Auberge de Sedona is one of the most romantic nature-focused hotels I’ve stayed at. Sedona already has such a dramatic, peaceful energy, and this hotel leans into that beautifully. It feels intimate, quiet, and connected to the landscape in a way that makes it perfect for a couple’s trip. It is not luxury in the same way as Dubai or Amalfi, but that is exactly why it stands out. It feels softer, more grounded, and incredibly memorable.
Most Underrated
10. Windsor Court Hotel — New Orleans, Louisiana
Windsor Court is one of the most underrated hotels I’ve stayed at. It is shockingly not a five-star hotel, because the experience feels far more elevated than that would suggest. It has an old-school elegance that works perfectly in New Orleans: polished service, beautiful common spaces, and a refined atmosphere without feeling stiff. This is the kind of hotel that quietly overdelivers, which makes it one of the easiest properties on this list for me to recommend.
